The Danish manufacturer Downwind has a new recovery aid in its programme. The deck chute is rigged on the foredeck and is intended to fulfil the same purpose as the trumpets permanently integrated into the hull of some boat classes for the quick setting and recovery of the space wind sail.
Recovery aid for space wind sails
The system consists of a fixed ring and a hose leading aft. The gennaker is pulled aft through this tube into the companionway using a recovery line. Conversely, this should also allow space wind sails to be set quickly. The deck chute is customised by Downwind on request to suit the size of the boat and sail. It costs from 940 euros for a 35-foot yacht.
