Quantum's new XRP Ultra Aramid Black cloth is a new laminate that is suitable for upwind sails on yachts up to 40 feet and is designed to be both profile-true and durable

The US sailmaking group Quantum, which also has a branch in Germany, has introduced a new cloth for laminate sails. XRP Ultra Aramid Black is produced exclusively for Quantum Sails. The roll fabric consists of a combination of high-strength aramid and Dyneema fibres with black film surfaces. Sails made from the new cloth are produced in a triradial cut and profiled. The cloth is said to be particularly suitable for small and medium-sized yachts. Quantum promises maximum profile fidelity and at the same time a long mechanical service life thanks to a combination of aramid and UPE fibres in the warp direction, along the length of the cloth. Furthermore, the sailcloth is equipped with densely laid fibres at a 60-degree angle, which also delivers high profile fidelity and a long service life, according to Quantum.

Canvas in Grand Prix look

The black polyester film surfaces in the canvas protect the embedded fibres from UV radiation. Thus, according to Quantum The look of the sails made from XRP Ultra Aramid is not only an imitation of the current all-black Grandprix sail materials, but also offers tangible technical advantages. The sailcloth is available in five different weights from 6,000 to 25,000 dpi, which corresponds to around 130 to 280 grams per square metre. This means that yachts from 20 to 40 feet can be equipped with upwind sails.

Price example for an Impala 27: The mainsail made of XRP Ultra Aramid Black sailcloth with a surface area of around 22 square metres costs 3881 euros, with one reef and four battens.
