The range of sailing materials on offer is hard to keep track of, but one name has stood the test of time for over a decade: DC. The material produced by the Kempen-based sailcloth manufacturer Dimension Polyant is something like the VW Golf of sailcloths. Unobtrusive, reliable, inexpensive, always free of fashionable escapades.
Polyant has now optimised the classic and made it available to sailmakers over the past two years alongside the old material. The results have been positive, so the manufacturer is now discontinuing production.
The new material, known as DCX, is characterised by an additional layer of so-called X-Ply, which is intended to noticeably increase the diagonal strength. These X-shaped fibre strands help to maintain the profile fidelity even when reefed. The new DCX is also said to be ahead of its predecessor in terms of elongation, mechanical resistance and UV protection.
Available in four cloth thicknesses for boats from 21 to 44 feet. More information is available from the sailmaker or directly from Manufacturer
