Mercury Marine is continuously expanding its range of outboard engines. Following the launch of new models with higher output in recent years, outboards with an output of 8 hp and 9.9 hp have now also been revised.

In recent years, EFI technology has become increasingly popular in outboard motor technology. This is an abbreviation and stands for Electronic Fuel Injection. In engines with a starter battery, the engine electronics are supplied by the battery. In smaller engines without a battery connection, the current must also be generated by the engine's own alternator during the starting process. This also applies to the new Mercury 8 hp and 9.9 hp EFI.

Thanks to the new technology and other improvements, the engines are up to 27% more economical than previous models with carburettors, according to the manufacturer. The outboards are also easy to maintain, do not require an oil filter change and there is no need to adjust the valves. Another practical feature is the fresh water flushing attachment with quick-release coupling, which can be easily connected to the garden hose.

Low weight

The low weight makes the motors particularly interesting for small boats such as inflatable boats or fishing boats made of plastic or aluminium, as the outboards can still be carried to the boat by hand and can be easily screwed to the transom. The 9.9 hp EFI can be ordered with remote control or tiller and is available with both electric and manual trim. Mercury equips the 8 hp EFI with a tiller - according to the manufacturer, all controls can be easily operated with one hand.

Another innovation is the 9.9 hp EFI ProKicker. It offers all the advantages of the two engines mentioned above and was specially developed for professional anglers. It is characterised by a high-thrust four-blade propeller, a Heavy Duty Command Thrust gearbox and trolling speed control.
