Adolfo Urso, Minister for "Enterprise and Made in Italy", has announced the implementation of framework law no. 206/2023 to promote ecological change in the leisure boating sector. A central component is the promotion of the purchase of electric drives. This support includes both inboard and outboard motors as well as batteries. Three million euros have been earmarked for this measure in the current year. The funding can be applied for from the responsible ministry, the current status of implementation can be found on their Website.
Private individuals can have a maximum of two engines subsidised, while shipyards and companies can also order larger quantities. The funding, which is granted in the form of a subsidy and up to a maximum of 50 per cent of the eligible expenditure, provides for an amount of up to 8,000 euros in the case of a "natural person" and up to 50,000 euros in the case of a company.
For outboard electric motors with an integrated battery with an output of at least 0.5 kW and up to 12 kW, i.e. most outboard motors used for sailing boats or dinghies, the subsidy is limited to 2,000 euros. For outboard motors with an external battery, inboard motors, sterndrives or pod drives, the limit is 10,000 euros.
