When was the last time you serviced your winches? Most owners don't dare to disassemble these heavily used tools to the extent that all critical points can be reached. However, good maintenance of the winches on board is just as necessary as, for example, the annual cleaning of a water tank.
Sailtec will be providing a remedy for Lewmar products at Hanseboot 2012: In a special area right next to the Sailtec stand, the staff will be demonstrating on two winches how to open them and what to look out for in detail during maintenance.
"If you know how to do it and you have the right tools, everything is very simple," says Uwe Kosmehl from Sailtec. "We have plans of Lewmar winches from the last 20 years, perhaps even beyond that, and will be bringing them to the trade fair."
A service kit consisting of pawls, springs and grease can then be ordered on site for most old winches. As this always depends on the specific make, Sailtec asks interested visitors to note the type number and year of manufacture of the winch beforehand. If they are no longer recognisable, in most cases a photo of the winch head will help with identification at the trade fair. "We hope that our idea will be a great favour to many owners of old, but of course also new Lewmar winches," continues Uwe Kosmehl.
Demonstrations and advice are of course free of charge. If you don't want to wait until the trade fair, you can also find out more on the website: At www.sailtec.de you can find sectional drawings, installation and maintenance instructions and spare parts lists for many models in the "Sheet winches" section. Price information is also available here.
