The New Zealand rig builder Southern Spars has redesigned its furling boom. The Southern Furl Boom consists of an upwardly open profile into which the furling system is integrated. The mainsail is furled over the foot. The advantage is that horizontal battens can simply be rolled in as well. In addition, the sail can be reefed steplessly from the foot. A practical detail is the sail cover, which is integrated into the main boom and can be easily pulled into the boom using an endless line (see video). The boom is made of carbon fibre and is available for boat sizes from 30 to 90 feet. There are three different drives, from manual to electric and hydraulic versions.

New Zealand rig builder Southern Spars has a special offer until the end of June for anyone who decides to buy a rolling boom. Anyone who buys in the next eight days will receive a carbon kicker worth 3000 US dollars on top. This corresponds to a discount of five per cent on the total price.
Southern Spars works closely with North Sails. This means that the boom and sails can be ordered together and should be particularly well-matched. Prices depend on boat size and sail area and are available on request.
