Until now, Torqeedo's most powerful outboard motor was only available with an external control unit, which was not always practical on sailing boats.
The Starnberg-based manufacturer has now upped the ante and is also offering the Cruise 4.0 T with a classic throttle grip, as already known from the smaller Cruise 2.0. The manufacturer recommends the high-torque electric motor for boats weighing up to four tonnes - the Cruise 4.0 T should have a similar thrust to a petrol-powered 8 hp drive. Against wind and waves, however, the motor is likely to run out of steam even on a modern 24-footer.
On the other hand, the skipper needs little strength when transporting the Cruise 4.0 T, which weighs less than 19 kilograms and therefore puts little strain on the mirror. All the more on the wallet: 3299 euros are payable, as much as for the model with remote control. However, the necessary batteries have to be added. A new feature of all Cruise models: electrics protected against complete submersion in accordance with IP 67, which should also ensure many years of safe operation in salty air.
