12 and 230 volts, battery, charger, inverter, distribution: the new Lithium Power System combines almost all the components of a modern vehicle electrical system

Apparently, on-board electrics can also be simple, at least in compact form. The lithium power system (LPS) from manufacturer Clayton includes a 90 ampere-hour battery, inverter and charger (1.5 kW), charging booster (45 A), battery manager, main switch and 230-volt distribution. The battery uses lithium-iron technology which, unlike lithium-cobalt types, is fireproof. The box weighs 28 kilograms. The price of 2678 euros corresponds roughly to the sum of the comparable individual parts of a conventional system.

The big advantage is the simple installation, as there is no need for complex wiring. The box is connected to the engine and starter battery, no intervention in the alternator is necessary. Is the LPS (distributed in Germany by Waterloft ) the solution for an electrical refit or a good replacement for existing components?

We installed the LPS and tested it for a season. You can read the report in the current issue of YACHT (issue 76, available from 21 March)
