An overview of which used radio equipment must be modified for registration or can no longer be used at all

Anyone wishing to register a used radio system with the regulatory authority since 1 January 2004 is likely to encounter difficulties. This is because new international authorisation requirements have been in force since 2001 and are now also mandatory in Germany.

In the following list of common marine radio equipment, you can see which used equipment is still eligible for approval, whether it needs to be modified before registration or whether a new purchase is due. You will also find the addresses of the companies responsible for servicing the respective equipment.

Devices that are already registered are protected as long as the vessel is not sold. If a necessary modification is noted in the overview, it is still worth having it carried out now. This is because in a few years it may no longer be offered for older systems. The new regulation also gives you two new channels for ship-to-ship radio traffic and two for traffic with harbours or locks.

If you purchased a marine radio system last year that cannot be registered now, please contact your dealer immediately. They should then take care of the necessary update for you free of charge.
