If you want to quickly recharge your on-board batteries in harbour, you need a powerful charger. However, many products only deliver their rated output if they are cooled appropriately. If the shipyard has installed the charger well hidden in the forecastle or under the bunks, heat often builds up and the charger reduces the power.
If the ventilation cannot be improved and the heat cannot be dissipated, the devices in Cristec's Y-Power series are an alternative. According to the manufacturer, the automatic chargers operate at full power up to an ambient temperature of 60 degrees - and even silently. At least the versions with 16, 25 and 40 ampere charging current do not have a fan; this is only necessary for the 60 ampere top model.
All devices can distribute the charging current to up to three battery banks, with each output being individually monitored and fused. A five-stage charging curve is designed to ensure effective topping up of the on-board batteries and a long battery life. In addition, the chargers can also be operated as a power pack without batteries during winter storage. For particularly high charging currents, up to four devices can be connected in parallel.
Whether the energy storage system is a wet, gel, AGM or lithium battery can be set on the device. The manufacturer offers special software variants for more exotic battery types. A CAN bus interface makes it easier to integrate the chargers into a bus system and enables convenient remote control via an optional touchscreen.
Prices start at 371 euros for the 25-amp version, while the 40-amp variant costs 612 euros. The top-of-the-range 60-amp model is available for 818 euros, both in the 12-volt version. From April, the 16-amp version will also be available for 293 euros, after which 24-volt models will also be available. The manufacturer offers a three-year warranty on all devices. In Germany, the chargers from France are distributed by Kiel-Nautik.
