The NV-Charts app works with the well-known raster maps from NV-Verlag and can be downloaded free of charge from the App Store or via Google Play and Amazon, as well as for Windows 7 and Windows 8 via the website of NV-Verlag. NV Publishing can be downloaded.

The centrepiece of the software is the so-called NV Cloud, which you have to register with (free of charge). The map sets and app data are then managed via this central access point.

The basic equipment includes a small map section to get an impression of the visualisation as well as pilot charts for the Baltic Sea and the Caribbean. The publisher's own map sets can also be used. These can be purchased directly in the app. Anyone who already owns paper map sets in the 2013 edition can unlock them with a code and use them free of charge with the app.

Once the maps have been downloaded, an internet connection is no longer required and even the detailed harbour information in the NV-Pedia is available offline. In addition to the basic navigation functions with waypoints, route planning and bearing ruler, the app also offers an electronic logbook. There is also a MOB function.

The focus was on ocean currents and their influence on climate change. Eventually he was drawn back to his home coast and to YACHT. He completed a traineeship there and has been working as an editor in the Test & Technology department since 2009. His core tasks include equipment and boat testing, as well as practical topics relating to electronics, seamanship and refits. As a passionate DIY enthusiast, he loves to spend his summers on the water with his family and winters working on his boat
