Pocket Mariner launches first AIS app for the Apple Watch
The Pocket Mariner apps turn the Apple smartwatch into a navigation display. AIS display and waypoint navigation are currently supported
After smartphones and tablets, the smartwatch is now making its way on board. Even before the official sales launch on 24 April, the first apps for onboard use of the Apple Watch are available. The Boat Beacon software from Pocket Mariner should be able to display AIS data, among other things, which would be a particularly helpful function in connection with collision alarms.
With the Sea Nav app also offered by Pocket Mariner, it should even be possible to display vector charts on the watch's small display, turning it into a micro-plotter. Unfortunately, Sea Nav is only available with charts for American and English waters.
