Dometic is expanding its range of mobile coolers with the new CFX5 series. Thanks to the use of vacuum insulation panels (VIP), the appliances are said to offer improved insulation with less weight and volume. According to the manufacturer, the coolers reach temperatures of up to -22°C and are therefore also suitable for freezing food.
At the heart of the CFX5 models is the new VMSO 3.5 compressor. It automatically adjusts its speed to ensure optimum cooling performance while minimising energy consumption. It is controlled via a weatherproof TFT display or Bluetooth app. Practical for on-board operation: a three-stage battery protection system prevents the battery from discharging too deeply.
The coolers can be operated with 12 or 24 volts direct current or 110 to 240 volts alternating current. The interior features removable dividers and LED lighting. An alarm warns you if the lid is left open for too long.
Dometic offers the CFX5 coolers in six sizes from 25 to 95 litres. The two largest models have separately adjustable cooling and freezer compartments. With external dimensions from 56.9 x 34.2 x 42.0 cm (25-litre version) to 96.2 x 53.0 x 47.2 cm (95-litre version), the boxes also fit into smaller sailing boats.
With prices between 749 euros (25 litres) and 1,299 euros (95 litres), Dometic has positioned the CFX5 in the upper price range. By comparison, simple 40-litre compressor coolers are available from as little as 300 euros. However, the high energy efficiency can be a great advantage on board. Passive coolers with ice packs are a cheaper alternative. They only cost a fraction of the price, but require the batteries to be cooled regularly.
