With software version 3.0.50, Raymarine integrates the control of Evolution series autopilots. The update includes a range of new functions that make it possible to select different autopilot modes, including steering by course, wind, polar data and to waypoints or routes.
One of the new features is the navigation mode, which provides a 3D visualisation of the boat in relation to the planned route. This visual support includes information on course deviations and turning points. In addition, the system offers controls for avoiding obstacles and continuing the route. This allows the skipper to react flexibly to unexpected situations.
For sailors, the update offers an extended steering option that enables steering according to true or apparent wind incidence. It is also possible to steer according to the values for maximum VMG stored in the polar data. The Alpha system also supports the visualisation of navigation, environmental and system data through customisable digital and analogue displays and histograms. This functionality is complemented by the integration of network video sources, such as FLIR thermal imaging cameras and Raymarine cameras.
The Alpha series instruments are available with 7- and 9-inch touchscreens. They can be mounted at the helm, companionway or on the mast in portrait or landscape format and are operated and customised via their own touchscreen or a Raymarine Axiom chartplotter. You only need a single cable for data and power, which simplifies installation. The update is free and can be downloaded from the website of Raymarine can be downloaded.
