The British company B&G calls its first VHF radio system the V50. The built-in device features a dual-channel AIS receiver that enables AIS reception and use of the radio via a shared antenna. In addition, the V50 can be connected to the Zeus series plotters via "plug and play" and can therefore, for example, display DSC distress calls directly on the electronic chart or track the positions of up to three neighbouring yachts using the TrackYourBuddy function.
For radio operation, the V50 has a channel selection wheel, separate volume and squelch buttons as well as two and three-channel monitoring. A large internal loudspeaker should ensure pleasant sound and good speech intelligibility. The most important functions such as channel selection, power switching and channel monitoring can also be operated from the handheld microphone.
The H50 wireless handset is also available as an accessory. It is connected to the V50 wirelessly and has an operating time of eight hours. The special feature here is that the integrated battery is charged inductively, making contact difficulties or fiddly charging plugs a thing of the past. In addition to the handset operating function for the V50, the device can also be used as an intercom for another H50 or the V50 base station. The device is waterproof in accordance with JIS-7, with the H50 it fulfils the IPx7 standard.
Both devices will be available immediately. The V50 radio costs 475 euros, while the H50 wireless handset is available for a further 201 euros.
