Little stretch, good handling and a favourable price - with the MegaTwin 07 rope, Gleistein wants to appeal to touring sailors in particular

MegaTwin 07 is a tamed regatta rope, at least that's how Gleistein describes its latest design. The rope is designed to combine the advantages of high-performance ropes with a low-stretch Dyneema core with the requirements of cruising sailors. Although these sailors are also happy to have little stretch, they are generally not prepared to pay the hefty surcharge for Dyneema fibre, especially as the rope diameter is selected more according to grip and function on winches and stoppers and the enormous breaking loads of high-performance ropes are not required.

Although the core of the MegaTwin 07 is also made of Dyneema SK78, the diameter and therefore the fibre content is much smaller. Instead, the line has an intermediate cover made of staple fibre. This helps with power transmission in the rope and prevents the core and cover from shifting during operation. A feature that is particularly important when used in low-cost halyard stoppers.

The cover is made of polyester and is said to be very abrasion-resistant. According to the manufacturer, the line is suitable for both sheets and halyards and is a good alternative to the often very simple original equipment used by many shipyards.

The rope is available in thicknesses from 6 to 16 millimetres. The 8-millimetre line costs 2.50 euros per metre.
