The Swedish brand Subtech Sports specialises in high-quality waterproof bags and rucksacks. The Pro Drybag series is aimed at water sports enthusiasts who want to reliably protect their equipment even under extreme conditions. The extremely well-protected bags are certainly overkill for protection from the rain. However, if luggage is to be transferred by dinghy or SUP and needs to withstand spray or even a fall into the water during transfer on board, the drybags from Subtech would be just right.
The Pro Drybags are made from extremely hard-wearing Hypalon fabric. Taped seams and an airtight zip make the bags completely waterproof - up to a depth of 50 metres, according to the manufacturer. This far exceeds the specified IP68 protection class. According to the manufacturer, the zip can also withstand a pressure of 500 millibars. This information is misleading, as a pressure of 5 bar (5000 millibar) would already be effective at a water depth of 50 metres.
Detachable rucksack straps and a hip belt enable comfortable transport even over longer distances. Magnetic handles facilitate quick opening and closing. A robust Cobra buckle ensures a secure hold.
The airtight zip creates an airbag effect. As a result, the bag adapts perfectly to the back and spine - regardless of the wearer's height and stature. This noticeably improves carrying comfort.
Subtech offers an inflatable inner system for particularly vulnerable equipment. The Shockproof Inflatable System (129 euros) fits into the 55-litre bag and encloses the load with a 360-degree air cushion. When inflated, it has a volume of 5 litres, leaving 45 litres of storage space. When deflated, it hardly takes up any space.
The Smart Pack System is available in three sizes (from 99 euros) for better organisation of your equipment. The padded organisers with adjustable compartments fit into the drybags, but can also be used separately.
The Pro Drybags from Subtech Sports impress with their robust workmanship and well thought-out details. Protection to a depth of 50 metres should be sufficient even for extreme use. However, the high quality is also reflected in the price. Cheaper alternatives may be sufficient for occasional users or hobby sailors. However, anyone who needs to reliably protect their equipment from the wet will find first-class products for the highest demands here.
The bags are available in two sizes: 55 litres (299 euros) and 100 litres (399 euros). With dimensions of 63 x 30 x 30 cm and 73 x 36 x 24 cm respectively, they are ideal for trips lasting several days. The weight is 1.7 kg for the smaller and 1.73 kg for the large version.
