Dry suit: finally tight again
How to fit new cuffs to an old drysuit yourself and what the difference is to a professional repair. Download the instructions in PDF format

Yacht sailors don't often need a dry suit. But anyone who also likes sailing dinghies is sure to still have one in the cellar or attic. If it is then taken out after a few years of storage - whether for use in cold water because a sea valve is blocked just below the waterline, or because you want to go for a spin with the Laser in icy spring temperatures - the cuffs are usually ruined. Over time, they become so porous that they can no longer keep the water out or tear as soon as you put them on.

The neck and arm cuffs have already been torn off and the ankle cuffs are brittle. However, the suit itself is still in good condition - with new cuffs it is ready for use againPhoto: YACHT/B. If the rest of the drysuit is still in good condition, it is worth repairing it.

We went to Dry Fashion in Halstenbek near Hamburg to see how sailors can do it themselves with the help of repair kits and how the professionals go about it.

Redakteur Test & Technik
