Musto presents the new LPX series for sporty coastal and inland sailing. The collection is based on a three-layer Gore-Tex ePE membrane, which is lighter and thinner than previous materials and does not use PFAS.
The LPX series is aimed at sailors who are travelling in coastal and inland areas and value a high degree of freedom of movement. In contrast to heavy offshore gear for long journeys, the LPX collection is designed for dynamic sailing with lots of manoeuvres, such as regattas or sporty day trips. Musto relies on modern material technology: the new Gore-Tex ePE membrane is not only lighter and more robust, but also more environmentally friendly than previous models. The absence of PFAS and the reduced carbon footprint are in line with current sustainability thinking.
The central element of the LPX series is the three-layer Gore-Tex ePE membrane. It is thinner and lighter than conventional Gore-Tex membranes, but is also designed to be more robust. The ePE technology is designed to be permanently waterproof and windproof while offering high breathability. The key difference to older membranes is the absence of perfluorinated and polyfluorinated alkyl substances - PFAS. These chemicals have been criticised for years because they accumulate in the environment and are only broken down very slowly. The new ePE membrane does not contain these substances.
According to Musto, it has also reduced the carbon footprint of its production. The extent of the savings is not quantified. The membrane remains permanently waterproof and breathable - important for multi-hour missions on board where sweat needs to be transported to the outside without spray or rain penetrating.
The LPX Gore-Tex jacket is available for men and women. It is designed to be particularly lightweight and offer plenty of freedom of movement. The collar is cut higher than in previous versions and should be safe to combine with a lifejacket without restricting freedom of movement. The shoulder area is ergonomically shaped to allow full freedom of movement when trimming and manoeuvring.
The side pockets are positioned higher than usual so that they don't get in the way or collect water when riding out on the wire. The jacket is available in three colours: black, true red and platinum. It costs 599 euros and is available in sizes XS to XXL (men) and XS to XL (women).
The LPX Gore-Tex Salopette was specially developed for sporty keelboats and combines reliable weather protection with maximum freedom of movement. The dungarees are designed for intensive regatta use or training in changeable conditions and offer high durability thanks to abrasion-resistant reinforcements on the seat and knees.
The double-layer stretch shoulder straps made of elasticated jersey prevent the salopette from slipping and allow full freedom of movement when trimming or riding out. Compared to the previous model, the shoulder section has been ergonomically redesigned and the fit optimised. A new feature is the adjustable Velcro fastening at the hips, which has been adopted from the higher-quality MPX series. It allows individual adjustment of the waist and adapts to different body shapes.
The leg cuffs have Velcro fasteners with elasticated inserts that ensure an optimum fit and provide additional protection against water ingress. The knees are pre-shaped, which significantly increases freedom of movement when kneeling or squatting. Two thigh pockets with zips and integrated inner reinforcement provide secure storage space for knives, gloves or other equipment. The pockets have a drainage function so that water can run off.
An external hanging loop makes it easier to dry the salopette after sailing. Reflective details in strategic places increase visibility in poor light conditions or at dusk. The Salopette is available in the colours black and platinum and costs 639 euros. Sizes range from S to XXL.
