The requirements for boots are numerous: they need to be waterproof, not slip on deck, especially when lying down, and offer a comfortable foot climate
The waterproof boots are designed to prevent cold and damp feet. Ten pairs were scrutinised in the test. There were a few surprises

The weather can still be uncomfortably cold, especially at the start of the season. It's good if your clothing blocks out the bad weather and sailing is still a pleasure. Dry feet in particular ensure a sense of well-being even in adverse conditions. But are the old boots still waterproof? Sailors should ask themselves this question before the start of the season. After all, once your feet have got wet a few times, it's no longer worth buying new boots - summer will come sooner than expected and boots will no longer be in demand.

Depending on the area and wind, you can be ankle-deep in water even on a cruising yacht. The boot must be waterproof Depending on the area and wind, you can be ankle-deep in water even on a cruising yacht. The boot must be waterproof

We therefore scrutinised ten new models and tested how much grip the soles offer on different deck surfaces, how much dirt they absorb when going ashore and finally the most important question: are the boots waterproof? More than half of the boots in the test were not, according to the sobering results.

The test report now in theYACHT 07/2015.
