The APC-50 binoculars from Kiteoptics feature newly developed image stabilisation and are designed to offer long operating times. What other innovations the equipment market has to offer

Kiteoptics has been producing binoculars with optical image stabilisation since 2021. However, the Belgian manufacturer was previously only known in the outdoor sector and among birdwatchers. With the APC 14x50 and the APC18x50, two models with particularly fast 50-millimetre optics are now coming onto the market. Kiteoptics relies on movable and compact roof prisms for stabilisation, which are designed to compensate for an angle range of two degrees. According to the manufacturer, the advanced mechatronics and new software ensure that the image stabilisation works extremely quickly and that no distortions occur during fast panning. Depending on the version, the lenses are powered by two AA batteries or lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, which should enable 38 hours of continuous operation. This should be enough for several seasons of everyday use. From 650 euros.

Glows in the dark

The 3D-printed Findfix family from boat builder Hermann Wegener from Ammersee has grown, see YACHT 12/24. With the Big Shiny, a wind indicator specially designed for night sailing is now also available. Instead of the usual reflectors, the undersides of the Windfix are printed in fluorescent material. Liros calls its new sheet specially designed for dinghies Magic Flow. The rope was developed together with the Ilca sailors of the German Sailing Team and is said to have a non-slip, abrasion-resistant cover and run very easily through the blocks. The construction consists of a combination of polyester and polypropylene so that no water is absorbed. The stiffness of the 16-plait material is designed to prevent the formation of kinks or knots. The diameter of the silver-orange coloured sheet is six millimetres.
