MPX oil from Musto tried out
We put the offshore foul weather clothing to the test under real conditions in heavy weather in the English Channel

The MPX Offshore combination from Musto had to prove itself on an autumn trip in the English Channel in predominantly rough weather. In terms of waterproofness, both the trousers and the jacket were convincing: the high, fleece-lined collar of the jacket may seem a hindrance in the harbour, but it proves its qualities as soon as spray and waves splash over the deck. The same goes for the hood, which can be pulled low over the face.

The neoprene cuffs integrated into the sleeves could be longer, but still fulfil their function and close well. A total of ten easily accessible pockets on the combination offer plenty of space for things that need to be within easy reach at all times.

Both the trousers and jacket allow sufficient freedom of movement for working, for example on the sails or on the foredeck. The trousers have large reinforcements on the knees and buttocks, which have been subjected to wear and tear during use, but have only been visually damaged. An albeit small, but very useful detail is the various hooks and eyelets on which the jacket and trousers can be hung up to dry or stowed away.

The only drawback, which results in points being deducted from the overall score, is the price: the jacket costs 639 euros and the trousers 499 euros. Four out of five stars. The test was published in YACHT 07/2018.
