Good lighting is helpful when cooking - on board is no exception. A light that can withstand uncomfortable waves thanks to a magnet can help in the dark. Plus: placemats for the maritime table.

Light where it is needed

Manufacturer Silwy presents its latest product, which we have tested and found to be very suitable for use on board. The 20 centimetre high rechargeable lamp called Portofino can be attached with a magnet integrated into the base. To ensure that the light stays in place while travelling, it is combined with a metal counter pole. This is adhesive, can be removed without leaving any residue and is available in two versions. The warm white and swivelling light stands or hangs securely in place even in waves, but can also be easily removed and moved again. It can be used to illuminate the hob or as a table lamp in the saloon or cockpit. Available in the colours sand, olive, black and white for 170 euros. More information: silwy.de

Nautical worlds on the dining table

People with an affinity for the sea will find what they are looking for in the speciality shop Mare-Me from Berlin: The placemats on offer, for example, are printed with subtle maritime motifs. Washable at 40 degrees, the cotton cloths are very hard-wearing. The sets measure 48 x 33 centimetres and cost 7.95 euros each. The versatile shop offers bowls and cups, napkins and games, among other things - all items that are ideal as gifts or souvenirs on board. More information: mare-me.de
