Coffee and cake on board place different demands on the equipment. The cake must be easy to stow and transport, whilst the coffee pot should be sturdy and hold enough coffee for several people. The two galley aids from Fackelmann and Yeti address these points.
The guide on [...], explains which other methods work without an electric coffee machine. Coffee on board and how to make it properly including a filter, a French press and other kitchen essentials.
If you’re baking something in the oven on board – whether it’s a casserole or a cake – you should also make sure you plan for it to be stowed away safely. After all, at sea, everything needs to stay in its place so that the cake makes it safely to coffee break. The Fackelmann springform tin with spill-proof rim and ‘Deluxe’ lid is ideal for this. The tin is made of non-stick coated metal, whilst the lid is made of plastic. It measures 28 centimetres in diameter and is eight centimetres high. The manufacturer offers a ten-year guarantee. Price: 37.49 euros. The tin is also ideal for taking cakes prepared at home on board. This saves on gas on board and leaves more time for sailing rather than baking or cooking. Yeti, known for its outdoor-ready thermos mugs, is expanding its Rambler range with the Durasip Ceramic Collection. The range includes a sturdy coffee pot. The Rambler 64 oz works on the same principle as a French press: the ground coffee is added and brewed with hot water. A push-down filter integrated into the lid is then used to separate the coffee grounds from the coffee. The pot has a capacity of 1.9 litres and features a double-walled design. The inside of the stainless steel is coated with a ceramic layer, which is designed to provide a special seal and prevent the build-up of residues and odours. Price: 150 euros.
