The manufacturer based in Leeuwarden has developed a floating platform with 400 litres of buoyancy, which allows four different water sports to be practised using just one platform. The board combines traditional sailing, windsurfing, stand-up paddling and the new discipline of stand-up sailing. Thanks to its high buoyancy, the design offers sufficient stability for a variety of uses. The EVA comfort-grip surface ensures a secure footing for all types of use. The concept is aimed at water sports enthusiasts who are looking for flexibility in their choice of sports and do not want to purchase separate equipment for each discipline. The manufacturer positions the board as an entry-level platform for beginners and as a versatile training aid for experienced athletes. Overall, the Maverick can serve as a fun piece of kit for the local bay.
Maverick: Four modes on one board
The Maverick board can be reconfigured for various water sports. In sailing mode, the board is fitted with a rig and sail, offering a modern take on classic dinghy sailing. To this end, buoyancy chambers are attached to the platform, which can also serve as a seating bench. Windsurfing mode uses the same base with an adapted setup for classic stand-up windsurfing with a boom. As a SUP board requiring no additional accessories apart from the paddle, the platform allows for stand-up paddling, either alone or in pairs, thanks to its high buoyancy. The fourth variant, Stand-Up Sailing, combines sailing whilst standing on the board – a discipline that brings together elements of SUP and windsurfing. Steering is then carried out using the tiller. Switching between the modes requires modifications to the rig and equipment in each case and, of course, comes at a cost.
Technical Basis and Design
The design is based on a hull with a volume of 400 litres, which provides sufficient buoyancy for a variety of load conditions. The EVA coating on the standing area prevents slipping and absorbs impacts in choppy conditions. The modern design takes into account the different requirements of the four sports in terms of glide, stability and manoeuvrability. According to the manufacturer, the board is suitable for both inland waters and coastal areas. This multifunctionality means it involves some compromises compared to specialised boards, but it allows you to get started in several disciplines with a single investment.
Target audience and area of application
With its Multisport Board, Maverick Sailboats caters to several user groups. Beginners can try out various water sports without having to buy separate equipment for each discipline. Sailing schools and rental companies benefit from the flexibility of a single platform for a range of courses. Families use the board for shared activities, as it allows for both solo use and tandem SUP. The stand-up sailing function opens up a new discipline for which there are currently very few established boards on the market. A traditional dinghy is likely to be of only limited use with the Maverick board. It does not provide sufficient protection for passengers and cargo from water, and there is no provision for either rowing or outboard motor mode.

The Dutch manufacturer offers the board through its distribution network in the Benelux countries and Germany.
