Equipment: Everything you need? Sail bags for short and long trips

The good old travel bag has long since become obsolete when travelling by plane, train or other means. Luggage is better protected and easier to transport in the ubiquitous trolleys that can be conveniently pulled behind you.

On board, however, you won't get very far with it - other criteria apply here. The sail bag should be roomy, because in addition to personal clothing, toiletry bag and shoes, it must offer as much space as possible for oilskins and other accessories.

Once set up in the bunk, it should be as small as possible so that it can disappear into the cockpit or other storage space for the duration of the trip. Here are ten models for small and larger trips:

The highlight: the bag has a valve that can be used to let out air and can therefore be compressed as small as possible even when packed. Also the Race Team model from Gill is waterproof and has a Velcro fastener and a roll-down fastener to ensure that not a drop of water gets inside. The name says it all: The Patagonia Black Hole Duffle has a volume of 70 litres. It is not waterproof, but highly water-repellent, which should be sufficient for most rain showers on the jetty. The bag can be carried in the hand or as a rucksack. After unpacking on board, it can be folded up small and stowed away in the additional small bag.
