There are many camera drones such as the Mavic series from DJI, but these aircraft are generally extremely afraid of water. Even a little rain or spray can put an end to the video mission, not to mention a landing in water. With the Poweregg X from Powervision, this should no longer be a problem. The egg-shaped drone is rainproof and can also take off and land on water using the floats supplied. The camera system can also be used as a 3-axis stabilised handheld camera. The camera can track targets and people using face recognition and automatically keep them in the frame. In drone mode, the camera is controlled via smartphone and controller or voice control in real time. The camera can also recognise gestures and use them to take photos, for example.
The propeller noise should not affect the sound recordings, and the smartphone can also be used as an external microphone. This enables videos from a bird's eye view, in which the commands on board or the splashing of the bow wave can be heard.
The Poweregg-X drone can be used in wind speeds of up to ten metres per second, which corresponds to around 5 Beaufort. The flight time is specified as a maximum of 30 minutes. As a hand-held camera, the battery lasts for 3.5 hours. The flight weight is 552 grams. The drone must therefore be labelled in accordance with air traffic regulations, and a Proof of knowledge is required.
The price for the Explorer set is 849 euros. The Wizard set costs €1149 and includes an additional set of spare propellers, a second battery, the water landing accessories and a waterproof housing.
Further information is available from the Manufacturer or with Waterloft. The outfitter will be exhibiting the drone at boot Düsseldorf in Hall 10, Stand A47.
