The youth boat of the Hamburg Sailing Club (HSC), the "RubiX" with skipper Johannes Müller, an X332 yacht, surprisingly won the championship title. Müller's crew has an average age of just under 25 years and "didn't expect this", says the skipper. They had perhaps hoped for a first place in one of the races, but winning three of the four races in the championship was something they hadn't expected, Müller continued. The young crew was visibly the most delighted of all those honoured at the awards ceremony in the Helgoland North Sea Hall that evening, and the 1,500 or so sailors in attendance paid tribute to the young athletes with loud applause. The "RubiX" had relegated the current German champion, the yacht "patent3" owned by Bremen patent attorney Jürgen Klinghardt, who races for the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein (NRV), to second place. Like the "RubiX", the "patent3" is an X332 yacht.
To award the championship title in the offshore sailing category, the ORCi 2 and ¾ classification groups had to be merged due to a lack of participation. But even with this measure, there were only eleven yachts in the classification.
There was no valid championship classification in the ORCi1 group, as only eight yachts had entered this group and only seven actually started. However, ten yachts are required at the start for a valid championship classification. The crew of the yacht "Elena Nova" owned by Christian Plump from Bremen won the sporting competition.
