An angle grinder is a good choice for coarser sanding work on the underwater hull, but the lack of extraction and the high removal rate also generate extreme dust levels. This is a problem even with good respiratory protection, as the surrounding area is also heavily contaminated.
The P1 dust-free sanding system from Jöst Abrasives is now designed to provide a remedy. It consists of a special disc. A slot system on the outermost edge of the sanding disc reliably extracts the dust that is thrown outwards by the rotating movement of the angle grinder. The extraction bonnet is integrated into the sanding disc unit, providing a clear view of the workpiece. This means that powerful angle grinders can also be used for dust-intensive work, even indoors.
The highlight here is that the special dust extraction system at the outermost edge of the sanding disc means that, for the first time, sanding can be carried out with precise edges and with a view of the fuselage section to be processed. The dust extraction system works regardless of whether the machine is held horizontally, vertically or overhead.
Universally applicable
The P1 dust-free disc can be used on all electronically adjustable angle grinders and polishers with an M14 thread, as is standard in Europe. The device can be operated at a maximum speed of 3,600 revolutions per minute and therefore delivers an extremely high removal rate compared to random orbital sanders and vibratory sanders. Thanks to the special design of the sanding disc, discs with diameters larger than the disc can be used. This enables radii and upstands to be processed in a single operation.
Disc diameters of 136 millimetres, 156 millimetres and 210 millimetres are currently available. The P1 sanding system is available as a set in a case with an electronically adjustable angle grinder, two or three sanding discs and a basic set of sanding and polishing discs and costs 632 euros or 746 euros with all three disc sizes.
In future, the discs will also be offered individually. Sales are still being set up, which is why the P1 sanding set is currently being sold directly by the manufacturer.
