Trailering: Accident on the country roadPhoto: polizei.mvnet.de
Abrupt end to a boat transfer: the entire left wheel of this trailer was lost. A curious fact: police officers who happened to be passing by were themselves transporting a Rib
Someone literally had a wheel off: on Saturday, a tyre and rim came off the trailer of a trailer-boat combination while driving. Fortunately, no one was injured. The police are using the case as an opportunity to make an urgent appeal to all trailer boat drivers, whether sailors or motorboat fans.

By chance, officers from the Schwerin waterway police attended a road accident on the B192 near Karow on Saturday. An owner had wanted to transport his boat from winter storage to the berth. However, according to the police report, the boat trailer from 1976 was so rotten that a wheel came off the trailer after a short time. It was only with luck that no bystanders were harmed, so that only material damage was caused.

Point and fine

The investigation into the accident revealed that the required main inspection of the trailer had expired. In addition, the boat was inadequately secured on the trailer and the propeller was not covered for transport. The driver of the trailer can now expect a point in Flensburg and a fine.

In view of the increase in boat transports at the start of the season, the waterway police are asking people to be aware of the particular dangers involved in transporting boats, some of which are very heavy. The officers appeal to trailer boat drivers to ensure that the trailer is in a roadworthy condition and that the boats are adequately secured against slipping on the trailer before setting off.
