With Abraclean, Mirka is targeting anyone who wants to sand and then paint GRP surfaces, wood or composite materials. According to the manufacturer, conventional dust binding cloths leave residues and do not completely remove fine particles. The new pad is intended to offer an alternative cleaning method: It consists of a coarse-pored, medium-hard foam and works dry and chemical-free.
The patent-pending cleaning pad is mounted on a random orbital sander with a disc diameter of 150 millimetres using Velcro fasteners. After sanding, the user guides it over the surface, causing the pad to loosen the particles while the machine's dust extraction system removes them. According to the manufacturer, Abraclean removes fine sanding dust without leaving any residue and ensures optimum paint adhesion without the need to use solvents.
Another advantage is its reusability: After use, the pad can be rinsed out with water and dried, after which it is ready for use again. This reduces waste and costs compared to disposable cleaning cloths. The manufacturer does not specify how often a pad can be reused. Abraclean can be used with all random orbital sanders with a disc diameter of 150 millimetres. A pack of four pads costs 56 euros.
