The advantages and disadvantages of the cheap and expensive options for getting your boat through the winter. Plus: storage, safety, drying

For some, the winter season is an enforced break, a never-ending, bleak abstinence from sailing. For others, it is a time for tinkering, crafting and realising dreams spun in the summer. And some people simply refer to winter as club time. Nowhere are the relationships with members of your own club or neighbours closer than in the winter camp, especially in the hall. They can be found there almost every weekend, whereas in summer, encounters tend to be random and of uncertain duration due to the different destinations and mooring times.

The choice of the type of winter camp is often not only characterised by practical considerations, social aspects can also play a role.

But which type of winter storage is right for me?

In the new YACHT, we compare indoor storage with winter storage outdoors, in the water, on your own property. The advantages and disadvantages of each storage location are compared in detail. The costs are also compared. The trend towards full-service winter storage at shipyards and specialised providers is dealt with in particular detail.

Storage, safety, drying

However, the ideal storage space is not the only important aspect in the cold season. Once the boat is high and dry, it should also be secured. The possible sources of danger are therefore covered, as are the various methods of storing equipment. Another topic deals with the correct drying of the yacht and the prevention of sparks and mould.
