Boat colours: Yellow on blue, that's smart
Whether white or colourful: every yacht has its own appearance. The colour scheme follows certain mechanisms - whether consciously or unconsciously

While the evolution of yachts is often about factual improvements - more living space or faster travelling - the changes in their appearance are mostly subject to general trends and individual preferences. No matter in which marina - when looking along the jetties, observers experience time travel through different eras of style and colour. To put it simply: in the fifties, the boats were plain and often white, in the seventies brown and beige tones dominated, nowadays yachts are sometimes painted in grey, light pink or even black.

But yacht colours are not always just subject to a trend. They often also say something about their owner, because every colour has its own meaning and external effect. Some colours also look better against certain backgrounds than others. Yellow appears very pleasant against an ultramarine blue ocean, for example, but less attractive against green-blue waters.

We looked into the psychology of colour and discovered some amazing things.
