The first German cleaning system for underwater vessels is trialled in Bremerhaven

We're used to it in our cars - but can we also have our yacht cleaned in a car wash? At least that's what Austrian designer Bernd Christof, who developed and operates the system in Bremerhaven, thinks - an interesting path to a biocide-free future.

"Regular use is no more expensive than annual antifouling," Christof is certain. On average, you currently have to invest around 100 euros in a cleaning process, 10 euros per metre of boat length. With a calculated three visits per season, this actually balances out the purchase of paint and the working time required for painting.
And it's also more environmentally friendly.

No wonder that the system has been well received in Bremerhaven and will also be available next year. Outside the Weser region, however, people will have to wait even longer for the ecological alternative, where Christof is still looking for investors who will buy such a 250,000 euro system and put it into operation in their marina.

You can read about how the boat wash works in detail in the latest issue of YACHT.
