The Maritime Cluster Northern Germany and its partners, such as the German Sailing Association, are organising a conference on the topic of antifouling in September. In the run-up to the conference, boaters and boat owners in particular are being asked to take part in a survey. The aim is to take users' wishes and suggestions into account when developing environmentally friendly concepts to prevent biofouling.
The event will focus on new developments in the field of antifouling, alternative cleaning options for yachts and the environmental impact of biocides and microplastics in waters. The German Sailing Association (DSV) and the German Motor Yacht Association (DMYV) will moderate the discussion on the concerns of boaters.
The survey takes about 5-6 minutes to complete. It consists of multiple-choice questions and options in drop-down menus. This gives boat owners the opportunity to contribute their interests and experiences. The DSV conducts a separate survey with a slightly different focus. It is recommended that you take part in both surveys in order to obtain a comprehensive picture of opinion.
For detailed information on the subject of antifouling, the Federal Environment Agency offers a Vegetation atlas on. This contains recommendations for selecting suitable antifouling methods for different areas. The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) also provides an e-learning course. This deals with topics such as biofouling, invasive species, environmental pollution and how to avoid it, as well as alternative cleaning methods. The course offers a modern and informative presentation of the topic. An additional YouTube video explains the problem of invasive species and their significance for recreational boating.
The Maritime Cluster Northern Germany is an association of companies, research institutions and organisations from the maritime industry in northern Germany. It promotes networking and the exchange of knowledge in the industry and supports innovations in the maritime sector.
