The new X 4.3 has been completely redesigned and is no less than 52 centimetres wider than its predecessor model of the same name, which is considerable. What's more, the two steering wheels are 20 centimetres further apart, which enables better passage through the boat and makes manoeuvres easier. X-Yachts has also redesigned the cockpit. The mainsailer now has more space to work in front of the steering column, can turn the winches more easily and also has the traveller within easy reach.
Despite the significantly greater width at the stern, the new X 4.3 also manages with just one rudder blade. However, the profile has become slightly larger. A new feature is the nose, which is firmly laminated to the hull and has an integrated anchor bracket, which is slightly longer than the flexible trunk on the previous model. As an alternative to the short overlapping genoa, the new X 4.3 can now also be fitted with a self-tacking jib on request.
Below deck, the changes compared to the previous model remain manageable. The aft cabins in particular benefit from the extension of the hull at the stern. The double berths are significantly wider on the new ship. The X 4.3 is equipped with three double cabins as standard. Optionally, an additional toilet room can be grouped in the foredeck. On request, the shipyard in Haderslev will also convert the boat into a two-cabin vessel. In this case, the aft cabin on the starboard side will be used as a large forecastle and the aft bathroom will be extended to include a separate shower area. The current base price for the new X 4.3 is 443,275 euros gross, excluding sails.
YACHT test editor Hauke Schmidt has already been on board the brand new X 4.3. The test took place in perfect conditions on the Baltic Sea off Heiligenhafen. The comprehensive test report will be published in YACHT issue 13/2022, which will be available from mid-June. Until then, a small selection of the first photos from the YACHT test is attached below.
From today, Friday, until Sunday, the X 4.3 will also be making its German premiere at the Hamburg Ancora Yacht Festival in Neustadt. The YACHT editorial team will also have a stand there.
