Designed by Danish designer Peter Bruun in the seventies, the yacht follows the classic design of Danish workboats with a pointed stern and attached rudder. However, Bruun was and still is an enthusiastic regatta sailor, so the boat had to sail well even back then. A modern underwater hull with a split lateral plan and plenty of sail area guaranteed this. And so the cute boat, named after the pilot whale, earned a reputation for being a good sailor.
On top of that, the build quality was already considered high at the time, on a par with Hallberg-Rassy. Bruun designed various boats at the time, all of which were based on the shapes and names of whale species (in Danish...): Spækhugger, Marsvin, Kaskelot and, of course, Grinde. Almost 600 Grindes were built - and are still in use today, as the boats are durable and popular because of their rustic shape.
