The two Yanmar engines push the colossus out of the harbour in Makkum. The centreboard remains in the keel, because the four-metre draught is too much for the IJsselmeer. The height of the deckhouse is also too much for Captain Kenneth - the wiry and calm boss can see almost nothing at the steering wheel behind the massive red superstructure. The shipyard quickly welds a suitable platform for him. With construction costs of 3.6 million euros, a bit of customisation is probably still possible.
The ship is full of well thought-out ideas from front to back. No wonder when a shipyard experienced with such projects meets an even more experienced project manager like Whitbread veteran Skip Novak. The result is a colossus that can operate according to schedule even in the most inhospitable sea areas.
