In spring 2009, the French company in Les Herbiers boldly launched a new line for the upmarket luxury segment. The range was aimed at a discerning clientele and very specifically set itself apart from the Sun Odyssey touring programme, which is more in line with the mass market. The concept has worked and has obviously been well received by the market. To date, Jeanneau's exclusive premium range comprises three models with lengths of 51, 54 and 64 feet. Now one more is being added: The new Jeanneau Yachts 60 is intended to close the gap at 60 feet (17 metres) hull length.
The shipyard has just announced the Yachts 60 project at its dealer conference. YACHT online has exclusive access to the initial information. Not much has been revealed yet, but the material available seems to indicate a big surprise package. The design plans are by Philippe Briand (as for all boats in the Jeanneau Yachts programme). Andrew Winch is responsible for the design and styling. The Briton is regarded as an authority on the interior design of exclusive superyachts. Compared to its sister models, the new ship will clearly be considerably fuller, especially in the foredeck area. In addition, the upturn in the hull appears to be more pronounced, which should provide more volume below deck. And the stern will be even wider in proportion, making it necessary to install two rudder blades.
As a result, Jeanneau can provide an enclosed garage for the dinghy in the stern, which is installed at an angle to the side - a previously unknown arrangement for boats of this size. Another new feature is the permanently attached bowsprit as a forward attachment point for the gennaker or Code Zero, as well as a dual function as an anchor holder. Under the name "Leisure", the large Jeanneau is offered in a blue water version with a powerful, fixed dodger above the companionway and a solid cockpit roof in the form of a bimini, similar to a catamaran.
Jeanneau has developed a whole range of interior versions with three to a total of six cabins. Thanks to the asymmetrical installation of the dinghy garage aft, owners can have a very spacious master cabin with its own bathroom on request. In front of the main bulkhead, there is a choice of one or two double cabins, each with its own bathroom. The forepeak can be fitted out with an additional twin cabin, a cabin for the skipper with a separate toilet room or as a sailing cabin with workshop. The following picture gallery shows the layouts with the possible variants.
Jeanneau is planning to present the new Yachts 60 as a world premiere at the boot trade fair in Düsseldorf next January. However, the prices have not yet been finalised. The shipyard is currently working on their calculation and the detailed standard specifications.
