Tomorrow - Saturday - the brand new Hallberg-Rassy 40C (the comprehensive test is in the current YACHT, issue 3/2020) will be presented at the world's largest boat show. And shipyard boss Magnus Rassy has already surprised us with another announcement: a Hallberg-Rassy 50 will be the next addition to the Swedes' programme. The plans have now been finalised and the shipyard will be able to show the first drawings and layouts in Düsseldorf. The new yacht will be the fifth of the new HR generation with a wide stern, double rudder blades and a fixed bowsprit. And the yacht with a centre cockpit surprisingly features double steering wheels, just like its bigger sister Hallberg-Rassy 57 (test in YACHT 20/2018).
The new designs from Hallberg-Rassy are now significantly fuller than the older models, especially at the rear. Compared to the 48 MkII, which will remain in the programme for the time being, the new boat is only 25 centimetres longer, but still 50 centimetres wider. As with the smaller 40C, the bathing platform will only close the stern halfway. This should keep the hatch lighter and allow it to be moved without complex mechanisms. The new HR will also adopt the proven concept with regard to the rig. This means a comparatively high rig from Seldén, a short overlapping genoa and the option of a self-tacking jib. In addition, the Swedes will of course once again develop a comprehensive concept for ultimate push-button sailing. All winches on deck and the furling systems for the sails can also be operated electrically on request.
There are a number of possible variants for the extension below deck. Essentially, the layouts are the same as those already available for the larger sister Hallberg-Rassy 57. There will be variations for the foredeck and for the aft owner's cabin. Customers also have to choose whether they want the galley in a U-shape on the starboard side or as a long row on the port side in the passageway to the rear. The layouts are shown below in the short picture gallery.
Hallberg-Rassy has also already announced an initial asking price, albeit in Swedish kronor. According to the current exchange rate, the Hallberg-Rassy 50 will go on the market for just under 1.13 million euros.
Magnus Rassy plans to present the new 50 for the first time at its in-house exhibition "Öpped Varv" (21 to 23 August 2020) in Ellös. However, the boat will still be under construction at that time. The world premiere is not scheduled to take place until the boot 2021 trade fair in Düsseldorf in a year's time.
At this year's boot, Hallberg-Rassy is represented in the Hall 16 at stand A54 represented.
