For example, the windows in the cabin superstructure will be larger and their colour will also be extended. This significantly stretches the look compared to the previous model. What's more, Najad has also significantly enlarged the hull windows. And: the strange storage box at the rear of the previous model has also been removed. Instead, Najad has installed two more windows to the aft cabin, which are also visually concealed with a wide black band. Overall, the views that have now been published promise a ship that will be significantly more visually attractive than its predecessor. Another new feature is a fold-out bathing platform.
More and larger windows promise more light below deck for a bright and cosy living atmosphere. The interior layout remains essentially unchanged. The centre cockpit concept allows for the spacious master cabin in the stern with a large, central double bed and its own bathroom with shower compartment. The general layout in the foredeck also remains original. However, Najad has shortened the double berth by 15 centimetres to create even more space in the forepeak for a proper sailing load. On the previous model, the bunk in the forepeak was over 2.20 metres long, so this measure is undoubtedly the right one and also makes sense. For the new ship, however, the shipyard has dispensed with the previous option of installing a third cabin with two bunk berths in the foredeck. This version was hardly ever realised for the predecessor model because the compromises were too drastic.
The first boat of the new Najad 450 CC New Generation type is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion in spring 2023. The shipyard has also already issued an initial price list. According to this, the basic version of the boat will cost 6,995,000 Swedish krona, which is very comprehensive and largely ready to sail. At the current exchange rate, this is around 657,500 euros net. Including 19 per cent VAT, the price is 782,500 euros.
Until recently, the Najad brand belonged together with Arcona Yachts to the Arcona Najad AB group of companies. Since June of this year, however, the two exclusive brands have gone their separate ways again. The new managing director of Najad in Henån on the island of Orust is Fredrik Malmqvist. The update of the Najad 450 CC is the shipyard's first new construction project under his leadership.
In YACHT issue 3/2017, we compared the Najad 450 CC against its main rival, the Hallberg-Rassy 44.
