Comfort and blue water suitability as standard. The new Oceanis Yacht 60 is ideal for long and luxurious sea voyages
The market leader expands its upmarket blue water programme and launches a new flagship with a range of exciting new features. Premiere in September

Externally and at first glance, the new, large ship is almost indistinguishable from its smaller sister Oceanis Yacht 54 (test YACHT 23/2020). The general design language, the layout on deck and the details are almost identical. It seems as if the yacht builders at industry giant Beneteau have simply "blown up" the 54 into the next larger format. However, it's not that simple. The main differences between the two current models in the upmarket yacht programme are largely invisible below the waterline and especially below deck.

An L-shaped keel is flanged to the hull of the new, larger boat. A sporty T-shaped keel is attached to the smaller 54. However, the lines remain similar. In the new model, designer Roberto Biscontini has also dispensed with particularly radical designs that are currently in vogue, such as extremely pronounced chines or an excessively voluminous front. The rather conventional, less angular design of the hull is obviously similar, if not almost analogous, to that of its little sister. The stern of the new 60 remains just as wide with a flat frame, which makes double rudder blades necessary.

The cockpit design, designed by star architect Lorenzo Argento, is also a 1:1 walkaround concept from its smaller sister, the Oceanis Yacht 54, and has already proven itself in tests. From his position behind the wheels, the helmsman can operate all sheets, halyards and trim lines himself without having to leave his workplace. For the crew, the winches are best reached from the outside. The channel between the coaming and bulwark provides a safe and secure position for efficient and powerful work. More importantly, the walkaround cockpit allows easy, barrier-free access from the cockpit to the foredeck, which is extremely convenient, especially on a large boat.

The tarp bracket above the cockpit is not particularly attractive, but practical. It banishes the mainsheet from the cockpit and can also be used as a base for attaching a large sprayhood. A large, semi-rigid bimini with a flexible convertible roof is also available as an option. A 2.60 metre long inflatable boat with jet drive can be stored in the stern in the direction of travel. The garage is a closed GRP moulding fitted between the two rudder shafts. This prevents water from entering the ship via the lazarette. The Oceanis Yacht 60 can be fitted with either a furling mast or a classic rig. Owners can also equip the boat with a self-tacking jib or an overlapping genoa, depending on use.

Below deck, the new Oceanis Yacht 60 shows fewer similarities compared to its smaller sister. The layout with three extremely spacious double cabins, each with its own bathroom with shower, is standard. No alternatives are currently planned. The galley is now installed as a split functional unit at the front across the entire width of the main bulkhead. The room layout in the foredeck is also exciting and innovative. The large double bed is installed here as a slightly offset island, allowing better and easier access from all sides.

The shipyard has not yet provided any information on pricing. This information will be provided at a later date. The new Oceanis Yacht 60 will then be presented as a world premiere at the trade fair in Cannes in September 2022.
