It has been a while since the shipyard in the mountains of Slovenia last presented a new development for the Impression touring range. In fact, the line has been kept up to date in the meantime with revisions and upgrades to existing models. Most recently with the Impression 45.1 (YACHT 19/2019 test), a new edition of the then 15-year-old 434. Now comes what has long been expected: a completely new development for the Impression cruising programme and at the same time the start of an intensive line reform. The new Impression 43 (I43 for short) marks the start. The prototype is now under construction and should be ready by the autumn. Cruising sailors can look forward to it.
As usual with Elan, the design once again comes from the Humphreys Yacht Design studio. The ship has a voluminous shape, a high freeboard and a wide stern with two rudder blades. The visual appearance of the yacht was created by the shipyard in collaboration with the Pininfarina design studio in Italy. This relationship has also resulted in the Elan E6 (YACHT 8/2022 test), which has won several design awards. The successful styling has now been transferred to the new Impression 43.
The spacious cockpit offers ample seating for up to ten people. The modular cockpit table can be converted into two sun loungers, allowing unrestricted lounging and sunbathing. Two stern boxes are now also integrated into the aft deck, which also provide an extended seating area for the helmsman. A barbecue and/or an additional outdoor refrigerator can also be installed here on request.
From the shipyard, the Impression 43 will be equipped with a self-tacking jib. However, an overlapping genoa with hoisting points on deck remains an option. Only the sheets for the mainsail and headsail are led below deck and inside the cockpit coaming to directly in front of the two steering columns, where they can be easily reached by the helmsman. The halyards, trim and reefing lines are operated at the front via the winches on the companionway.
Owners can choose between versions with three or four cabins. However, the variation is only limited to the foredeck. An additional Pullman cabin with bunk berths can be installed here, and the wet room is smaller without a separate shower area. Aft, there are two generously proportioned double cabins, which are spatially separated by a strikingly wide technical duct. The galley is built into the side as one long row. Judging by the plans and photos, the galley has large work surfaces and plenty of storage space.
Elan Yachts has also already announced the prices for the Impression I43. The boat will cost 333,080 euros, including sails and 19% VAT.
