Straightforward concept, well thought-out design, good sailing characteristics: the new Jeanneau
Jeanneau has also implemented the innovative walkaround cockpit on a smaller boat. And it works. Now up to date: the first photos from the YACHT test

With the latest tourer, the yacht builders at Jeanneau in France are updating their cruising line. Following on from the larger Sun Odyssey 410, 440 and 490 models, the new Sun Odyssey 380 now also features the innovative walkaround cockpit with barrier-free side passages across the recessed running decks. In tests, the special layout also works excellently on the new and smaller ship.

The concept also impresses with a great deal of variance. The boat can be customised to personal requirements with different rig configurations. An overlapping genoa is also available as a sporty alternative to the self-tacking jib, for example, and the mainsail can be built with a powerful boom in the top because there is no backstay. There are also variants for the hull appendages. In addition to the fixed keel in two draught variants, Jeanneau can also equip the boat with a hydraulically retractable swivelling keel.

The Sun Odyssey 380 has been nominated for the European Yacht of the Year award and will be on show as a novelty at the boot trade fair in Düsseldorf in January. The smart Frenchwoman costs 181,710 euros including 19 per cent VAT, with sails and built-in engine.

The comprehensive test report will be published before the premiere in Düsseldorf in YACHT, issue no. 2/2022, which will be available shortly after the turn of the year. Until then, the first photos from the YACHT test in Barcelona are available here as a gallery.
