The shipyard from Lunderskov in Jutland is working ambitiously on its range of high-quality deckhouse yachts despite full capacity utilisation and long delivery times. Following the completion of the new flagship 570 DS Custom (see YACHT 23/2021), a 500 DS Custom was launched. Now the mid-range model 40 DS, which has been on the market for over 15 years, is due for a redesign. It will be replaced by a 420 DS. The new boat is essentially based on the same hull, but will be equipped with a new deck and a one metre longer rig as well as correspondingly more sail area. The hull is given a steel frame that absorbs the forces of the rig and keel. The T-keel is fitted with a heavier lead bomb. The half-skeg in front of the large rudder is retained. The deckhouse is adapted to the modern new style of the shipyard with continuous panes in a curved line. The boat is given a fixed bowsprit, which also serves as a step and accommodates the anchor bracket - and, as on many other yachts, justifies the boat's new size designation.
There are two cabins fore and aft or an additional one under the saloon with a raised seating area. With Nordship, the customer has a great deal of scope for co-design, even for the smaller units, including the layout and surface design.
The design is again the work of co-owner Lars Buchwald, supported by Borghein Yacht Design. The hull is hand-laid as a sandwich laminate with vinyl ester resins and foam sandwich. The new Nordship 420 DS costs 622,263 euros (incl. VAT) and the first two units will be launched in June.
