The Slovenian shipyard is now offering configurable e-drive packages for all models. According to the shipyard, the surcharge compared to diesel is around 20 to 30 per cent

Both companies are Finnish-owned, so Oceanvolt and Elan believe it is only logical that they should work together in this rapidly growing market. From now on, all of the shipyard's models up to the GT6 will be available with electric drives. This makes Elan the first series shipyard to offer an electric option for all models. The large units have two motors, which reduces space requirements and increases manoeuvring comfort and recuperation.

Elan wants to offer packages that are customised to customers' needs in collaboration with them. "We talk to the customer, draw up an energy balance and then suggest the optimum system to match," says David Rajapakse, Head of Marketing at Elan. "We have summarised this in four packages for the time being: Entrée (motor and batteries), Advanced (additional electric cooking and heating), Generating (additional solar and wind) and Hybrid (additional generator)," continues Rajapakse. All packages can be expanded with additional battery packs. Each e-boat is a project and is created in close consultation with the customer.

According to Rajapakse, the 20 to 30 per cent surcharge relates to the Entrée package in the smallest yacht, the E3. The percentage decreases as the model gets larger and increases depending on the package and battery pack selected. An E3 with 10 kW drive and 13.3 kW/h battery pack costs 28,490 euros more than the standard equipment. For the GT6, two 15 kW drives with a 45.6 kW/h battery pack cost 87,490 euros extra. The whole thing with the better servoprop costs a further 11,763 euros. Additional battery packs cost around 1000 euros per kW/h.

This makes Elan the first major manufacturer to offer e-drives for the entire range. It remains to be seen how this will be received. Click here to go to the manufacturer's website here.
