Bestevaer 36 S/Y: robust explorer in a compact format

KM Yachtbuilders, the specialists for explorer yachts in Holland, transfer their independent blue water concept into a compact format

The aluminium yachts in the legendary Bestevaer series already enjoy almost cult status among blue water sailors. Now the shipyard KM Yachtbuilders in Holland has announced the smallest ship in the range, the Bestevaer 36 S/Y. The design comes from Dykstra Naval Architects and is built entirely from aluminium and, like all ships in the exclusive range, is equipped with an integral ballast centreboard. The flexible appendix can be fully retracted hydraulically into the hull. This means that the ship can also navigate shallow waters and can easily fall dry anywhere on the very robustly built aluminium hull, for example on the mudflats. The rudder blade is attached to the stern and can also be retracted at least partially. It thus serves as an additional support when falling dry, and the ship remains steerable over shallows. A skeg protects the saildrive.

The Bestevaer 36 S/Y is equipped with a two-reef rig from Seldén with rod shrouds. A special feature is the so-called Hoyt boom on the foredeck, which can be used to unfurl the jib on long downwind stretches. The fixed dodger above the companionway is standard and offers good protection against wind and overcoming water when underway. Below this, in the deckhouse (or pilot saloon), there is space for two people, who can sit in an elevated position with good visibility, but are also very well protected and can be quickly in the cockpit if action is required.

The Bestevaer 36 is still in the development phase. Accordingly, the shipyard has not yet communicated the prices. The new presentation video, which has now been published by KM Yachtbuilders, offers a very good insight into the project.
