While German sailors on the Baltic Sea are still shivering through a cold snap, spring is already arriving on the Adriatic with sunshine and warmth. There are signs of a relaxed season without coronavirus restrictions, and milestones are on the horizon in the region this year: Following an EU review, Croatia fulfils all Schengen requirements and is also planning to introduce the euro next season. This could make the region even more attractive this year, especially for owners who want to cross the border to Croatia or Slovenia. Not that the area needs it - after a super 2021 season, the signs are once again pointing to a record-breaking rush of charter crews, and the owners are all on the move again too.
For the summer, we have a great cruise suggestion for many crews: the island archipelago off Sibenik. There are 28 islands off the town that marks the entrance to the Krka. But instead of sailing up to the waterfalls, there is plenty to discover in the sea of islands: beautiful bays with cosy konobas, tranquil island villages and countless anchorages ideal for swimming and even snorkelling in a new underwater museum. We have put together the most important destinations.
An interview with the head of the maritime breakdown service SeaHelp is fascinating and reveals that coronavirus has left its mark on more than just some sailors. Difficulties getting to their own ship in 2020/21 and finding companies for maintenance caused many owners unexpected technical problems, which resulted in many more call-outs than normal for the helpers.
And of course, the season start update from area guide author ("888 harbours & bays") and Croatia expert Karl-Heinz Beständig is a must. He has compiled the news from the harbours and buoy fields and knows all about the latest harbour projects.
