Shore power cables are coveted stolen goods in some places
In Juelsminde and Haderslev, cable thieves are to be deterred by camera systems in future. The video surveillance was installed because an increasing number of shore power cables were being stolen from yachts - even in winter storage.

As we reported on YACHT online, unknown perpetrators in Apenrade recently stole power cables on a large scale by pulling the plugs out of the shore sockets and cutting the power cables on the boat side.

In Juelsminde and Haderslev, the harbour operators are now using video surveillance to counter this activity. Here too, a total of around 100 cables were stolen.

Concern about break-ins

"Our concern is not just that the thieves are stealing cables that have no significant value in themselves. If they break into the boats and steal other things or there is vandalism, it has far greater economic consequences. That's why we're taking the step of monitoring," Knud Madsen, harbour manager in Juelsminde, told Danish media representatives.

Other ports also affected

In the meantime, shore power cables have also been stolen from the harbours of Kolding, Aabenraa and Brejning.
